“Un lieu magnifique et plein de potentiel, mais une expérience malheureusement décevante en matière de confort, de restau”
The venue has a lot of charm and a unique setting, and I really enjoyed the person who accompanied me throughout my stay – she was extremely pleasant, caring, and supportive. The rest of the staff were also professional and spoke excellent English. I chose this place specifically for its atmosphere, history, and the promise of a genuine immersion into traditional Japan. Unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations, especially considering the Relais & Châteaux status and the price. I came mainly to rest, but left feeling more tired than when I arrived. The room’s comfort was below what I expected; the temperature was hard to adjust, feeling either too hot or too cold. There were also unpleasant smells of fish, stuffiness, and even dampness in the room. My last night was especially bad and heavily influenced my overall impression. The dining also disappointed me; the food wasn’t bad, but I expected a higher standard for a property of this caliber and price. I also missed more guidance and storytelling about the place – I wanted a deeper dive into the history, Japanese traditions, rituals, their meanings, and the culture of the site. The potential is huge, but I didn’t feel truly transported into that story or experience a complete immersion in traditional Japan. The daily companion was very pleasant, but she didn’t speak a word of English, unlike the rest of the staff, which sometimes made communication harder and limited the support I hoped for. Finally, there were several practical problems. The Wi‑Fi was very unstable throughout the stay, which is disappointing for a property of this standing. Also, a taxi was supposed to be booked for me at 11:30 am on the day of departure, but due to an error it wasn’t ordered. I had to arrange one at the last minute, and it only arrived around 11:40 am.
