I definitely recommend this place; the owner was kind and it felt very good there, and her Guava sweet was really good—I could remember my grandma.
“Pse”
The place was clean and well located, and the kitchen could be used. However, there was a power outage from arrival until the end of the stay—no light, no internet, and worst of all, no fan. It got very hot, and for breakfast, no gluten‑free alternative was offered.
The amenities and service were good, but the location was a bit complicated.
“Well run hostel, quiet location, friendly and helpful host.”
Good communication from the start and the host was around the hostel to help whenever needed. The shared kitchen was spacious and well equipped, and the fridge was clean. The location was quiet with green views, and the breakfast—two small pancakes and a piece of fruit cooked by the host—was nice. The host was always friendly and helpful. Only one collectivo boat leaves for Livingston at 9.30 am, and you can catch the afternoon return if you want a day trip; there’s a second boat from Rio in the afternoon. Missing the 9.30 am boat forces you to pay about 100 US dollars or more for a private return, though you can arrange a tailor‑made itinerary. Two hours in Livingston felt enough; other overnight guests I spoke to regretted it. The beaches aren’t clean, so it’s interesting but not a Caribbean paradise. People are friendly. There’s no communal oil for cooking, but the price is acceptable. A large supermarket sits on the main road about 10 minutes away, and smaller shops are closer. The freezer had mould, but it’s easy to clean. From the bus station you walk along the main road, which is very busy with trucks; there’s no pavement, though it’s safe enough if you’re careful. The walk takes about 30 minutes. Tuk‑tuks are available during the day, but you’d still need to walk along the main road for other accommodations. The toilets are difficult to flush properly. It would help to have boat information posted on a wall, especially noting the single 9.30 am collectivo for day trips, so guests don’t miss it and end up paying a lot.
The location was pleasant: quiet yet close to all facilities, and I liked the pool. The contact felt somewhat distant at times, but that might be due to my lack of Spanish.
