“Terrible booking.com communication”

We checked in on 30th‑31st August for one night. We had tried to communicate with the hotel for five days with zero responses. When we finally checked out, we received a reply. I had been trying to arrange something special for my partner’s birthday and our engagement since 25th August, and I wanted to arrange it for the night we arrived, but the staff said they couldn’t accommodate without notice. I had been trying to arrange this five days before we checked in—plenty of notice—yet received no response. It was very disappointing, especially when choosing this hotel to celebrate something so special. I’m posting this review so no one else experiences it.

Breakfast buffet was varied and well stocked. Nice beds and bathroom. Food was good on 1 night. Nice decor throughput. The rooms are not secure. The keypad code is obvious and a man from a function actually let himself into our room on the final evening! Very noisy, wooden floors and stairs, can hear every movement/ noise from corridor and adjacent rooms. Definitely no soundproofing as advertised. No aircon (needed in hot south facing rooms). Staff speak virtually no English and don't really have hospitality skills yet. No explanations about anything when we arrived. We felt completely ignored when the place was quiet. We saw larger Asian groups being treated much better. Rooms had no water/ glasses/ cups/ kettle/ tissues (ie usual basics in a room at this price range). Other features advertised are not present eg table tennis (there is nothing to do at lodge). No lift (okay with us but it was advertised)

The place is excellent for a break; the rooms are comfortable and cozy, and the restaurant and lounge deserve top marks. Breakfast is served as a buffet. The staff work professionally, showing politeness and care for guests. One of our rooms had a shower that only supplied cold water, which is disappointing. It is a pity that the restaurant does not operate past 22:00; I didn’t read the opening hours and ended up eating elsewhere.

“Highly recommendable! We had a night stay; wish we had booked two.”

The rooms were great, the facilities were nice, and the staff were really helpful. Nothing to add.
