“A peaceful, beautifully designed hideaway in the tea-covered hills with the warmest hosts.”
The Backyard Balangoda was our first stop after a long flight and the ideal spot to unwind and immerse ourselves in nature. We had a small chalet all to ourselves, which felt incredibly peaceful and private. Every detail was beautifully designed and stylish, with a clear focus on aesthetics. The private rooftop terrace was great for yoga or workouts, and the bathroom featured a cool rainforest shower. Even with a full day of rain, there was still plenty to do. We selected tea leaves and coffee beans, brewed our own tea and coffee, and enjoyed a tasting afterward. On sunny days, there are lovely hikes through the tea plantations and to nearby waterfalls. The food was amazing as well! The highlight, however, was Sumith and his team—so kind and welcoming. M Sumith took the time to share a lot about Sri Lankan culture and history. It was a truly special place and the perfect start to our trip!
