Our stay at The Ashbee Hotel in Taormina was truly outstanding. The prime location, stunning view, tasteful common areas, well‑maintained gardens, and restaurant created an environment of high aesthetics and discreet luxury. The room was spotless, comfortable, and well‑equipped, and the quality of the linens and attention to even the smallest details impressed us. The overall atmosphere matched the expectations for a high‑level stay. The staff were polite, willing, discreet, and very helpful throughout. The meals and breakfast were exceptionally high‑quality. However, there was one point that left a negative impression. At check‑out a specific amount appeared on the bill as a general tip for the staff. Although it was clarified that the payment was optional and the amount would be distributed among the employees, the pre‑set charge on the final bill creates an indirect psychological pressure on the guest. A tip is a personal and free expression of gratitude for the services provided. I would have preferred a simple notice that guests may leave any amount for the staff if they wish, without a predetermined charge, which could be adjusted according to personal preference. In fact, upon arrival I had already given a personal tip to the staff who escorted us to the room, without knowing whether it was included in the collective distribution system. My comment is not about the staff or the services, which were exemplary, but solely about this management practice. Despite this reservation, the overall experience was excellent and The Ashbee Hotel remains a high‑quality hotel with distinctive character, superb aesthetics, and genuine hospitality. I would recommend it without reservation, hoping the management will reconsider this small but significant detail.

“Lovely spot but some aircon issues”

The spot is perfect for walking around town and feels like a little oasis of beauty and calm inside the gate. The views are stunning, the hotel itself is gorgeous, and the breakfast with its views was excellent. The rooms were a bit small but appealing. We were greeted with drinks in the courtyard near the pool, which was a nice touch. The main issue was the air conditioning for both us and our friends. It’s tricky to use, and once you cool it enough it shuts off at night, making it far too warm. The staff denied this happens, but we’ve seen it in Italy before, so we’re not surprised by denials. It happened in both our rooms, even after calling and visiting the front desk. I suspect they’re trying to cut costs, but at this price point it’s unacceptable to lose a good night’s sleep because of heat. Another dislike was that no directions were given on how to find the hotel (it was tricky on a busy road), and if you miss it—as we did—you have to go back to sea level and climb up again, which takes about a 12‑minute round trip.

The room had a strong damp smell, and changing rooms didn’t help. It was small, the facilities were old, and there were no mosquito‑repellent provisions.

“Super🩷”

We were on our favorite island celebrating our 40th anniversary with family and landed in a lovely room in the main house; the staff, breakfast, and every facility were superb, making it one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed at—thanks for making it so special, everyone was super happy 🩷

“Veldlig fornøyd. Kommer gjerne tilbake.”

The rooftop breakfast spot was fantastic, and the staff were very skilled and friendly. The hotel’s restaurant turned out better than I had read about, offering excellent food. The only downside was that the pool was very small.
