The hostel sits in a favela, but from the rooftop terrace you get a full 160° panoramic view over the city, which is pretty cool. It’s quiet and cozy, ideal for relaxing and enjoying the view. Getting to the city center is just a walk down the main street, then you can take the metro or a bus; if you’re up for it, you can walk back up, or catch a minivan for 5 BRL. The owner, his wife, and daughter are super friendly, communicative, and helpful if you need anything—some English is spoken, so just take it easy and you’ll find the best way to get along. I stayed for two weeks and it was a nice experience overall, though the initial location instructions were confusing and could have been clearer.
