The room was really big and pretty. No complaints at all.

The location was gorgeous, but the mattresses were a nightmare – we couldn't sleep and our backs hurt. The pillows and sheets with the 3D pattern were uncomfortable too. Even though guests are asked to keep it quiet after 11 pm, we kept waking up to hallway noise, and my mom was roused by the neighbors' snoring. The walls just don't insulate well.

The room was roomy, the setting was calm, and the brasserie right next door was a nice touch. The only downside was a lingering dog smell that vanished after a few hours of open windows, but I still got a few flea bites. Also, there was no sign on the street or parking directing you to “guesthouse De Wissen,” which would have been helpful.

The spot across from the old Maas arm was great – I could see the sunrise right outside the door. Finding the guesthouse was a bit tricky; you have to walk off the street onto the dike and first hit the bistro, where the staff pointed me to the bike garage. The small kitchen was handy. The downside: the shower drain didn’t work well, so it took a while for the water to hit the right temperature and I was worried the tub might overflow. A shower mat would have helped.
