“Would stay here again.”

The room was great, and even though the main building looked a little run down, the ex‑seamen living there said it had character; a fire alarm between 3 and 4 am disrupted the stay, but at least it wasn’t cold outside.

The place was clean, spacious, welcoming, comfortable, and had lovely decor; the location felt a bit out in the sticks, but that added to its charm—having a car would have removed that drawback, yet overall it was great!

“Perfect place to stay, in a lovely location.”

The location was perfect because we were attending a local wedding, making it very convenient; the room was spacious, immaculately clean, and well presented, with mints, hot chocolate, water, tea and coffee facilities and a lovely en‑suite bathroom; the staff handled everything with ease, and the extra breakfast charge was worth it—an excellent find I’d definitely recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found everything very good; the advertising could have been clearer about what was being booked—this large country house runs as a charity for Merchant Seamen, with several rooms converted into guest accommodation separate from the residence, and while comfortable, I did find the bed a little small; the residents were always ready for a friendly chat and unfailingly polite, adding to the charm; it’s a hidden gem that I hope will stay undiscovered, though I suspect it won’t, and we’ll definitely return—there’s nothing not to like.
