“Very nice hotel but not quite a five-star experience”
The décor of the hotel is stunning, with carefully chosen interiors, a charming billiards room, and stylish sitting areas that give a luxurious feel right from the start. The spot is great, just a short walk from town, and there’s convenient parking at the back. The staff were a real highlight; everyone we met was friendly, upbeat, and welcoming. They offered to help with our luggage when we arrived, which I really appreciated once I realized our room was up two flights of stairs. On the way out, we had trouble moving our luggage ourselves. We booked a Superior Double Room, but it felt cramped for that category. It sits in the eaves and you have to climb several flights of stairs, so it didn’t feel as premium as expected. There were also inconsistencies between rooms: ours didn’t have an iron or ironing board, while other guests had them. My partner had to search for them the evening before an event. The hotel claimed to be five‑star, yet there was no evening dining option, which was a noticeable omission. I’m not sure what the “Spa” was supposed to be, as staff didn’t mention it and another guest told me it was closed. The most disappointing part was a fire alarm incident. Reception closes at 10 pm, and when the alarm rang throughout the hotel around midnight, no one was on site to help. It kept going for about 15 minutes. There was no phone in the room, so I had to call the hotel to report it. Someone eventually came to switch it off, but by then all the guests had been disturbed and left feeling wired. We were heading to a wedding the next day, and I felt bad for another couple staying with a baby who were also affected.
