The location, staff, and service (including the spa) were excellent, and the view was great. The food had a bit of limited variety.

The hotel’s location is truly outstanding and a very good starting point to explore the entire Aso region. The breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and volcanoes are especially impressive. Our room was on the back side of the hotel, not the volcano side, but we still enjoyed a beautiful view of the mountain landscape. We stayed in a renovated area that we liked very much; it was modern and comfortable. Food is another big plus: breakfast is excellent, and dinner offers a wide selection, so there should be something for everyone. The staff were friendly and always helpful. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay—especially the location and the scenery around the hotel are exceptionally beautiful. We were somewhat disappointed with the condition of the bath areas. Both the indoor and outdoor baths appeared somewhat worn compared to other onsens we visited during our Japan trip. For a hotel that otherwise gives a rather upscale impression, details like heavily worn or partially missing silicone seals stand out. The stated bath operating times also didn’t always match the actual availability. When cleaning work took place during the designated hours, the bath areas were inaccessible, which was annoying. Another point that somewhat marred our otherwise nice stay was that we were asked upon arrival whether we wanted a room cleaning and on which day. We deliberately chose to have a cleaning three days after arrival because that was our wedding day. Later, we were asked, about six times, whether we still wanted the cleaning on that day. At 21:50 the evening before our wedding day, the reception even called us on the room to confirm the request again. It was only a normal, simple room service: fresh towels, making the bed, and the usual small cleaning tasks—not even a change of sheets. The repeated inquiries gave us the impression that our request was unusual or unwanted. Ultimately, we felt uncomfortable enough to skip the cleaning altogether, which was especially disappointing because it didn’t match the hotel’s claim or its price.
