I stayed at Thien Tan after being rebooked. The location right on the 50 m wide, 200 m long clean sandy beach was perfect. Because the island is still not mass‑tourist, the beach was only frequented by a few people. The hotel’s restaurant was good and cheap. The tiny island is absolutely clean, traffic is relatively relaxed, the main town, typical Vietnamese, has several restaurants that are all comparatively cheap, and at night there’s a clear street‑food market with plenty of fresh fish. Everything was fine.

The location is brilliant, right on the beach, and an early‑morning swim followed by mango juice from the friendly staff was great; a short walk takes you to nice cafés and the town centre’s street food. I rate the location and staff 10/10, but the room itself and the tired look of the walkways and gardens let me down a bit. The room was in poor condition, the icon didn’t always work and was noisy when it did, the bathroom door was held open by faith alone, but the staff were great, cleaning sheets and towels every day, so I hope to return next year and ask for a different room.

The location is very convenient for moving around. The room is very large and reasonably priced. It could be cleaner, especially the floors, and the staff don’t speak English.

The place was closed for renovations, so when we booked we were offered to move to Thiên Tân Hotel for the same price, but that hotel seemed cheaper than Tan Son Nhat, so I booked directly there. The on‑site access to all meals at the Bar 200 restaurant was pleasant and the beach was nice too. We could also rent scooters on site for 170k VND. The bathroom smelled like sewage for all four days we stayed, even though we kept the fan running. It’s an old spot, so everything creaks. The beds were comfortable and the sheets were clean, and they changed our towels every day.
