Set before the Rocca Medicea in Portoferraio, Hotel Airone sits within a 30,000 m² garden and offers a salt‑water pool. The rooms were decent, and the sea‑water pool was fine, but the value for money was terrible—207 €/night felt like a blatant theft for a 4‑star hotel. Breakfast was disastrous: limited options, stale scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, and flies in the milk and cheese because the buffets weren’t covered. Coffee dribbled out slowly, except for a few lucky guests who got proper bar coffee. The reception ignored our complaints, and the staff were far from friendly.

The bed was very comfortable, the walk and the pool area were pleasant, and breakfast was superb—there were plenty of options, even scrambled eggs and bacon. Only 5 minutes away by phone was a single working restaurant.

he breakfast was very good and definitely one of the highlights of our stay. The main reason I booked this property was because it was advertised as having a private beach. The funny part is that the beach was there, but when we asked the staff about using the water, we were advised not to because it was slippery and potentially dangerous. As a result, we had to go to other beaches, which was inconvenient and not what we expected when booking a property with a private beach. The pool, however, was very good and enjoyable. One thing I did not appreciate was having to pay €2 every time we needed a clean, dry towel. Considering the price of the stay, I would expect fresh towels to be provided without an additional charge. Overall, the breakfast and pool were very good, but the private beach situation and the extra towel charges were disappointing. Dinner was okay, but the main course was extremely small—more like an appetizer portion. The rest of the meal was served buffet-style. Overall, the dinner was acceptable, but considering the portion and what was offered, I found it somewhat expensive.
