We had a room with a stunning Alpine view that made our holiday unforgettable; we spent hours on the balcony admiring it. The room was spotless and spacious, with a very comfortable bed and pillows, though it lacked both air‑conditioning and a fridge. The hotel is very quiet in summer, but the décor is aging and a bit worn in places. The pool is excellent and the sauna decent. Unfortunately we couldn’t try the highly‑rated steak house on the top floor because it was booked for the whole week by a tour group, so we dined twice on the ground‑floor restaurant where the food was tasty and prices were average for St. Moritz, albeit the menu was modest. The real shock was the terrible service from the waitstaff—rude, brusque and unfriendly. On the first evening the male waiter acted rather audaciously, and on my birthday the next night a young waitress served us with a scowl, refusing to smile and treating us as if we owed her something. The climax was when, after we asked for the bill and stepped out to the terrace to smoke, she stared at us from the terrace with the check and shouted, “Do I wait five minutes or what!?” which left me stunned until my husband put her in her place and saved the evening. The reception staff, however, were very attentive, helpful and extremely polite. The negatives are the restaurant service, the rude waiters, and the lack of air‑conditioning and fridge.
