“Hotel ótimo para turismo de aventura mas com tarifas muito altas para a Guatemala”
The location and lake view are good, but the cabin had no curtains or blackout.

The view of the lake was great, but the rates are too high for an adventure hotel in Guatemala.

I have mixed feelings about my stay at KULA MAYA during my 4 days (three nights) in the last week of August: POSITIVE The view was excellent, the room was large, it was 5 minutes from the boat harbor, and there was a good variety of food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The room was comfortable but because it’s an igloo or glampling type, during the day with the sun it got hot and the fans weren’t enough to keep the space cool. NEGATIVE There were workers doing repairs in front of the pool (right in front of our room) from 7am to 6:30pm, making noise with music, cutting machines, shovels, polishing machines, and it could be heard on the first level of the restaurant. This was very annoying and prevented us from hearing nature and being 100% at peace. It happened the whole 4 days we were there. Unfortunately it’s a hotel with a considerable price that should consider this aspect even from the booking moment. We never received warnings that there were works that could cause noise and discomfort. The pool needs maintenance, especially the jacuzzi, which was cracked. Also, it was only on from 5pm to 8pm and wasn’t big enough for several couples at once, which made it hard to use. Moreover, the water was excessively hot. The main pool (next to the jacuzzi) wasn’t climate controlled, so it wasn’t pleasant to use at night. It also had no lighting, so at night it wasn’t appealing to use. The waiters need to be more attentive to service; in our case we moved tables because there was a lot of sun in the morning to a shaded table and the waiter took more than 10 minutes to move the water, cutlery, and set up an extra spot on the table we moved to. The waiter service could improve. When paying the bill, they charged us a double plate, which was corrected. Additionally, the tip was 10% and was included directly in the invoice and final amount to pay. We had to request an adjustment to the tip and noticed it wasn’t well received by the receptionist. Overall, I would question twice if I’d want to book again.

I loved the lake view and the rooms are spacious, but the rooms could be more practical – no fridge, the shower curtain is plastic and the windows let in too much light. The bar and restaurant staff are hard to manage, and the kitchen fails to deliver on its promises of French, Spanish, or Italian dishes; more training is needed if they want to meet their own standards. Service is a mess – distracted, underprepared, and the table‑setting routine is barely applied. I honestly think the mandatory “Yankee” style adds nothing, just creates a false sense of comfort that the guest pays for. Overall, low quality‑for‑price.

The view was fantastic, the food fresh and tasty, and the staff were very friendly, plus the location was super close to the dock. The room wasn’t well insulated; I was right next to the street and all the street noise – dogs, people – seeped in. Check‑out was early, but I managed to leave a bit later than usual.
