It was a very cool hotel, the room was good, the location is superb, breakfast was really good with a wide selection, and the staff overall were very nice and helpful, but I missed a coffee machine in the room – something I like, especially since the breakfast sometimes gets quite busy for a hotel of that size, especially on Saturdays and Sundays.

Breakfast offered a large choice. Special mention to the lady who stood for 3 hours continually cooking omlettes for a queue of guests. They were very popular. The room looked grubby/ dusty and needs updating. We paid for a superior room which was small (even for a city), claustrophobic and had basic facilities. We asked reception for a change to a clean room and they were not apologetic. Even in new room walls were scuffed so paint missing and carpet stained. No space for the kettle which we found in the wardrobe. Tea and coffee supplies were very limited. 1 milk carton replaced each day between 2 people. Corridor carpets needed hovering and only on day 3 did we see a hoover! I misunderstood the Clarion name. I thought we were treating ourselves for a significant anniversary. I have stayed in better budget hotels/ hostels. Will never recomend or stay with this chain again
