You don't expect such a "hotel." First, you hardly find it, then you are speechless. A lovingly renovated old building like no other, with old walls, old trees, a fountain in the courtyard, and vaults inside and out. The house is run by a young family who are refreshingly courteous, from the reception to breakfast to the elegant embroidered bed linen and the farewell. The fact that there is a garage is commendable, though you have to "thread" yourself in, which is about centimeters. But that is accepted because parking is not really easy to find. The location is absolutely central, everything is within walking distance. The house really has a flair that is rare, yet everything is up to date. We are a bit picky about mattresses. Spring‑coiled ones don't bring us joy, though not everyone feels this. The Wi‑Fi doesn't work in the courtyard because of the thick walls, but all that is easily accepted or forgotten in this historic house.

I stayed in a historic building that felt like stepping back in time; the cool interior made the hot Beja weather feel pleasant, and the air conditioning was only needed occasionally. The bed was cozy, the bathroom neat, and the place was very quiet. Mariana cooked a lovely breakfast, and chatting with her and Nuno was a highlight. The whole experience was top‑class, and I’m grateful for their hospitality. Beja itself is a fascinating town with over 2000 years of history.
