Hotel Restaurant Rothorn in Visperterminen, Valais Alps, offers ski-to-door access 20 metres from the Visperterminen-Giw Ski Lift at 1,340 metres above sea level. The classic Swiss-style restaurant serves local specialties and wine on a large mountain-facing terrace. Rooms feature wooden furniture, work desks, and private bathrooms with showers or bathtubs, some with balconies.

The location is good, but the breakfast could have been more varied. The manager did not greet us warmly, never asked if everything was fine or what we were doing there, only said “good morning” or “good evening,” and seemed unmotivated. The room description listed a kettle and a coffee machine, and the photos showed them, but they were not present.

The hotel’s central location, right next to the chair lift, is very convenient. The host is personally present and serves guests both in the restaurant and at reception. The Heida wine was excellent, and the Heida Walliser Plättli with dried meat and cheese was also great. The view from our balcony room was superb, and it was very quiet on Monday night. However, the bed creaked when turned, and the breakfast only offered one type of cheese, already sliced thin.

The location is great, the staff are straightforward, and the room setup works well for a single night and as a starting point for a long hike.
