The lodge sits prettily on a hill, offering sweeping views of the lake and western mountains; it’s a newly renovated building with all the comforts of home and a touch of elegance. William, the host, is warm and friendly, creating a festive, welcoming vibe. The only hiccup was a storm with high winds one night that knocked out the power in the area, but it was back on for dinner.

Breakfast was great, though it arrived late. The surroundings are probably the most beautiful and peaceful spot in Ireland. We had no tea or coffee facilities, and on the third day there was no hot water. The host apologized and let us use his private cottage for hot water if we wanted. Dinner was good, but the portions were small.
