“Paisible et dépaysant”
The bay is beautiful, the staff are very friendly, and the beach bungalows feel truly paradisiacal. Breakfast was à la carte (but essentially à la carte) for us because we were almost alone in the low season. Koh Rong Samloem is a peaceful island cut off from the world, perfect for 2 to 4 days. You can access Lazy Beach very easily, and Sunset Beach with a bit more walking and a less easy path at the end. Snorkeling gear, paddle, and kayak are available (we didn’t use them because it was hot!). The resort sits between a construction zone and an unoccupied resort, so the surrounding areas were not always well cleaned (and the island suffers from plastic pollution like many places in Asia), so the beach seemed a little less beautiful than further out, but groups are working on the island to remedy that. The umbrellas were a bit defective, but the owner told us they would be replaced soon; after all, it wasn’t high season yet. We thought we could wander more, but the round trips to Koh Rong or elsewhere don’t seem possible in a day (or are expensive in private boat).
