The hotel was superb, very beautiful, and the best two‑storey family rooms! In August the beach cafés at the hotel were closed.

Breakfast was excellent! I didn’t like the location, there was nothing around. Everything else at the hotel was wonderful.

I celebrated my 40th birthday there and it was amazing. The property was impeccably maintained, with stunning landscaping, tropical plants, flowers, and fruit trees, and it sat between the sea and the mountains. The front desk staff were friendly and welcoming, housekeeping did an outstanding job, and they even arranged a birthday surprise in the room—‘happy birthday’ spelled out in petals, a cake, and so on, for which I’m extremely grateful. I loved the room furniture, especially the beautiful four‑poster bed and the intricately carved wooden desk. The gondola on the hotel canal was lovely (we rode it twice), the pool was excellent (towels, sunscreen, mosquito spray provided, plenty of sun loungers). The hotel also offered extras like a Ming dynasty museum on site and a VR game room. The evening fire show was a nice touch. Special shout‑out to the on‑site Spanish restaurant ‘La Mesa’, which delivered exceptional service and delicious food. Thank you. We paid extra for lounge access, but there was no lounge—only the breakfast room, which opened twice a day: once for snacks (sandwiches, cakes, fruit) and once for hot food (fried rice, noodles, Chinese dishes‑style buffet). ‘Cocktails’ were also available—premade tall glasses of various syrup with alcohol, no one knew what was in them or how to make a fresh cocktail on request. We were told they were the hotel’s ‘signature cocktail’, but they tasted like sugary water. The ‘lounge’ had no sofas or relaxing areas, it was full of kids, dirty tongs, and a free‑for‑all buffet. Not what I imagined or expected. Breakfast was below expectations too—squash instead of juice, limited fruit (watermelon, jackfruit, sour apples) considering Hainan is a tropical island! There was a great range of Chinese‑style breakfast (noodles, congee, steamed buns, etc.) but limited international options. On our last day we went to the bar at 19:20 and it was closed. These areas could be improved, but they did not ruin the stay. Overall, the Fairmont was excellent!

The property is truly well cared for and sits along the sea, a paradise! What made us feel so good was the staff, whom I want to thank sincerely for all the assistance they gave us, especially a big thank you to Austin and Kimberly, who are two exceptional people!

Our stay at Fairmont Sanya Haitang Bay was an enjoyable experience, with a beautiful and well-maintained property, a clean and comfortable beach, and excellent breakfast options. The rooms were spacious and well-appointed, with a lovely view of the sea and surrounding greenery. We appreciated the manager Austin's helpfulness and the hotel's warm hospitality.
