I went to Bukit Lawang for a jungle trek to see wildlife. The guesthouse sits very close to the river but not so close that the music from bars keeps you awake at night. What an experience! I booked the trip at the guesthouse. The nature was amazing and we saw a lot of wildlife: orangutans, lizards, several monkey species, etc. I booked a 3‑day/2‑night trek. The base camps were in the jungle, back to basics, but that’s what you expect. I slept on a thin mattress, showered in the river and waterfall. The food and information were good. The guides, Arlong and Nang‑Nang, were nice and enthusiastic. My host Ren did everything to make my stay comfortable, even taking me to the nearest ATM on his motorbike. Overall, good price‑quality. I would definitely recommend this guesthouse to anyone. The restaurant served good food and drinks with a nice vibe.
The accommodations are all in the middle of the jungle, so don’t expect luxury. Everything is available, but air‑conditioning and hot water are hard to find at guesthouses in Bukit Lawang anyway. It’s not mandatory for travelers, but keep this in mind; it’s back to basics in the jungle.
