We were in Tulbagh for a wedding, and the guesthouse was close to the venue. The street itself is charming, steeped in history and character. The breakfast area was lovely, with a beautiful dining room full of intriguing art and objects. However, the cottage we stayed in wasn’t very clean, the pool was green and unusable, and the garden area was generally messy.

The garden shed is exactly as advertised—a tiny room that’s perfect for a quick business trip. Adding breakfast for R150 was tasty and great value. The location is centrally placed, and the whole property’s décor and style are simply divine. The shed does have a slight musty smell, likely because it’s on the same level and next to the pool. When I arrived around 10:45 pm on Wednesday, a social gathering was happening at the pool, but it dispersed and fell silent within 15 minutes of my arrival, so that was fine.

The breakfast was decent, but the dishes were dusty and the napkins were filthy with crusted food. The sheets were threadbare, and the top sheet had holes.
