I stayed at a lovely villa with a pool in Uluwatu, and the owner was a genuinely nice person who suggested several beaches, dining spots, and sunset views, plus he let us check out after the agreed time so we could surf in the morning. The only hiccup was that a few phone chargers didn’t fit the outlets, except for the bathroom one, so we had to switch between them to charge our phones.

The room was quite spacious and there was a nice swimming pool. The drainage smell in the bathroom was absolutely vile—not just mild, it was really strong and drifted into the room. Even after we switched rooms to escape the odor, the same smell persisted in the other room. The air conditioning was extremely weak in both bedrooms, so the interior was hotter than outside, and I ended up sleeping on the floor because the cold tiles were the only thing that could cool me down. The photos of the property are staged to glamorise it, but in reality it isn’t as nice and luxurious as portrayed.

Getting around was super easy with a scooter, and the location was top. When we arrived, the room had no toilet paper and a broken air conditioner. The rooms weren’t cleaned during our stay and we didn’t receive them fully clean—coffee stains on nightstands and the like. There was almost no staff. We also had a broken shower that was promised to be fixed the next day, but that never happened, and with no staff we couldn’t follow up. We had rented a scooter for the 8 days and paid for it in advance. On the last evening, the staff tried to upsell us, saying we still owed money; we didn’t fall for it, but it made us realize the staff weren’t friendly.

The place was epic, with a great location and super helpful staff. I’d gladly return and stay again.

The bed and shower were nice. The sliding door didn’t close properly and there was a strange chemical smell in the room.
