The building feels old but is kept in good condition, though it’s a bit far from nearby conveniences.

The hotel sits right next to the university, bridging the urban Moshi area and the rural foothills of Kilimanjaro, making it a great spot to acclimatise before a climb while offering a real glimpse of local life; everyone on the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the rooftop tables provide the best views of Kilimanjaro and the neighbourhood. The only downside is that you’ll need to head to the JRO airport to reach Kilimanjaro Whitehouse.

The receptionist Aladaro was superb, Gerald and the kitchen crew, including Freeman, were amazing, and housekeeping was welcoming and happy; the hotel accommodated all our needs, and I’d recommend staying on the top floors for the better views. The road outside was bumpy, but that’s a city-wide issue, not just here, and the pillows felt hard for me.

“A little bit disappointed”

When we checked out, the staff couldn’t confirm whether we had paid. We had to show the booking confirmation (in English) to prove payment. Our room was noisy from the neighborhood and the windows couldn’t be fully closed.
