Fenix Hotel - On the Beach

It’s in front of the beach. The value for money isn’t good, the facilities need maintenance, the cleaning staff were very unpleasant.

“Paradisiaque !”

The spot is fantastic – you get a private beach, gorgeous décor and a real sense of peace. The only let‑down was the sofa‑bed; it was pretty stiff and not comfortable at all.

“Very relaxing”

The hotel’s location and gardens were wonderful, and when the air‑conditioner broke, Kim stepped in, moved us to a new room and even handed us a bottle of wine. The only complaint is that the A/C only ran at night, so the midday heat after a beach walk was hard to bear.

The place sits right on the sand, with cute little cabins close together, making it easy to meet other travelers, and the beds are huge and comfortable. The downside is there’s no air‑conditioning in the kitchen/living‑room where another bed is, so that area gets sweltering while the bedroom stays cool.

Being right on the beach with hammocks in coconut palms, a tiny pool and even monkeys to watch was a real treat. Yet it was one of the most expensive spots we stayed at in Costa Rica, didn’t include breakfast, the extra bed was uncomfortable, there was no shower soap, and only one room had air‑conditioning – which wasn’t mentioned – making the 38 °C nights pretty tough to sleep through.
