Slaley Country House, 8 km from Stellenbosch’s centre, sits in the Simonsberg wine ward offering mountain vistas, a tranquil pool, tennis court and garden panoramas. The location was great on an active vineyard, though it sits beside the busy R44, which hardly bothers you. Eight minutes by car from Stellenbosch and several nearby wineries. We stayed in room 7, which had a spacious terrace overlooking the pool. The room itself was large, clean, with a big bathroom featuring a shower, two sinks, a good bed and mattress, and secure accommodation. Breakfast was continental and hot, very extensive and tasty. Coffee and tea facilities were in the room, plus a personal fridge. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The only downside was that cats also appeared in the breakfast area.
