The owners are genuinely nice and the house is beautiful with stunning gardens and tennis facilities, and the location near Dunbrody is great, so we slept soundly each night. But the rest of the stay felt like a massive step back in time and didn’t meet the standards of a good B&B elsewhere. Check‑in was very basic: we were only shown our room, the breakfast area, and the gardens, with no welcome information. The room itself was tired—there was a blanket instead of a proper duvet, broken curtain hooks, and worn towels (one badly marked). The in‑room information book was completely out of date, and the Wi‑Fi didn’t cover our room while the 5G signal was patchy. The listing and photos were misleading: the gym was closed and the old equipment was just shoved into a corner, the advertised pool and jacuzzi weren’t readily available and required a special request to open and heat, and the yoga sessions were never offered. The photos of golf were irrelevant. Breakfast was a major letdown; the “amazing food” praised in past reviews was nowhere to be found, and what was offered was extremely basic—just a cheap yogurt, a couple of bread slices for the toaster, a few condiments, two cereals, and a granola jar, with only one bowl for two people. Even the coffee sachet was outdated (2022). It’s sad to write this because the owners are pleasant and it’s their home, but the property desperately needs investment and basic hospitality training. If they’ve scaled back operations this year, the booking listing urgently needs updating to reflect the current reality.
