“What you see is not what you get.”
The spot is within walking distance of Schönbrunn, the metro, and a tram stop nearby. I booked The Vienna Fifteen – Boutique Hostel, Mariahilferstrasse 208, Vienna (operated by AK Projektmanagement GmbH) by mistake and would strongly advise against it. The photos on the site don’t match what I found; I took my own photos. I stayed in Room 4 for five nights and it was clear it hadn’t been cleaned for a long time: dust, dirt, hair under the bed and in drawers, a visibly dirty mattress, a strong cigarette smell, cigarette burns on the desk, and the smoke detector had been removed. I reported this immediately and asked for another room, yet I remained there for five nights. I was eventually moved to Room 2, which was cleaner, had no cigarette smell, a smoke detector, and a clean mattress with a protector, but still had dust, hair, and dirt under the bed and around the window. The room was extremely noisy from traffic and trams; the wall to Room 1 was poorly soundproofed, so I could hear the neighbouring guest coughing, and the bed squeaked loudly with every movement. Basic facilities were often unavailable: the shared refrigerator stopped working and some of my food spoiled; when it restarted, melted ice left the fridge full of water, which was not cleaned. Later, all toilet paper and towels disappeared, followed by the kitchen waste bin, both kitchen towels, and all spoons. Communication was mainly through automated chatbot replies. Only Milena eventually took concrete action and arranged the room change, but by then five days had already passed.
