Sleeping in Moulay Idriss means stepping off the beaten path and staying in a more modest place. The owner wasn’t there, so I got the keys from street neighbors after a phone call with Zakia. The terrace view is indeed beautiful. The room is rather simple. The bathroom is very Spartan, with little hot water. My main issue was the lack of airflow in a house that was very hot during the day, making it impossible for me to sleep.

The hostess was friendly and warm, and the breakfast was very good. The Riad is old-fashioned, with uncomfortable rooms, heat under the roofs, hard beds, worn décor, and problems with wall maintenance and overall house upkeep. The bathrooms are in bad condition, no hot water, and cleanliness is questionable. This family house, though charming, needs a good renovation. We were especially sorry because the hostess was attentive and charming, and we enjoyed staying in this authentic town. The price was low compared to the quality of the service.
