A peaceful spot right on the water with a lovely place to stay.
The room was modern but quirky, with great balcony views, a lovely breakfast, and friendly staff; it’s just a few minutes’ walk or drive to the harbour front.
“The Royal George was a lovely overnight place to start off our visit to Devon.”
The breakfast was tasty and well presented, though the selection was limited. The restaurant offered lovely views of the waterfront. However, there was no option for choosing a seat inside the restaurant, and the outdoor seating area didn’t match the style and standard of the interior.
The staff were welcoming, the place was spotlessly clean, and the location had sea views with a comfy bed. However, the restaurant menu was very restrictive for coeliacs; the only starter I could order was olives, and I couldn’t have chips, which was disappointing given the fish and steak‑centered menu. What I did have was delicious.
The location was good, but the roast beef at the evening meal was very tough; it would have been better to have a smaller portion but higher quality. It was the first time I was charged per item for breakfast, which made it expensive; I’m used to being charged for a full breakfast or a continental breakfast.
