The place is super unique; Ivan has poured a lot of effort and care into building Wolf Totem to create a special space in the mountains of Pisac. The areas around the property are all thoughtfully designed for specific purposes, like the kitchen/common area is perfect for meeting new people, hanging out, or working if you’re WFH. Ivan hosts pizza nights and serves different food each day, which really brings people together. The yoga deck is absolutely stunning and there’s always something to do (pool, sauna on Thursdays, pool room, etc). Ivan is always nearby to offer advice or a good story, though if he’s busy he might ask you to wait a second so he can focus on what’s in front of him. I loved meeting people here, loved Pisac—it might be my favorite place in Peru so far—and loved getting to know Ivan and all his sweet pets. Be prepared to hike up and down a sizeable hill to get to Wolf Totem. The vibe is definitely very rustic but in a charming way, I think. It feels real and authentic, though if you’re not comfortable with spiders and some dust, you might want to find somewhere more modern.

The most memorable place we stayed in Peru; we extended our stay as soon as we arrived. The location is beautiful and quiet, perfect for escaping Cusco’s noise and a great spot to relax after trekking. The rustic villa was a perfect place to watch the stars and felt very cozy. We had all the amenities we needed to cook for ourselves on some nights. Small shops at the bottom of the hill have all the essentials, and there’s a place to get laundry done by the next day. The sauna and dunking pool run a few times a week. Ivan is a very friendly and informative host who kindly gave us a guided tour of the nearby lakes with insane views. Ivan also makes a huge effort to bring people together, so there’s a great community feel among everyone we met here. The food was delicious—especially the smoothie bowl for breakfast and the Philly cheese steak sandwich for dinner. Cats and dogs made it feel like home, and we wish we could take them with us.
