The spot was decent, and there were a handful of cheap but tasty restaurants nearby. The downside was the metal walkways outside the rooms that lead straight into the garage; people walking down them were noisy, and conversations from the other side of the walkway and on lower levels could be heard. I don’t blame the hotel for that—just some inconsiderate guests.

Being close to Bill Graham theater and having easy Uber pickup was convenient. The hotel sat just outside the Tenderloin, which felt a bit scary for me and my daughter. The street was loud, and the walls were thin enough to hear the next room’s chatter. The room lacked a deadbolt; it only had the key‑card lock, which felt insecure. A cigarette burn marred one quilted comforter, and the bathroom door had deep scratches as if something had tried to claw its way out before. The table’s plastic band was detached, and the plastic chairs were very uncomfortable. The pillows were lumpy and the bed was hard. Breakfast was advertised as included, but when I arrived I was told otherwise. Overall, the hotel and its surroundings felt uneasy, and as a single mom I worried about our safety, not realizing the area was problematic.

The location was fine. The reception staff attitude was terrible. The receptionist was not friendly at all, speaking too softly through a small window without opening the door to the front desk. She preferred to leave me outside and continue talking behind that window. Despite my requests for louder speech because of street noise, she made no effort. She was absolutely unfriendly, not smiling, made no effort, and seemed annoyed to be there. She also failed to keep her promise of sending me the bill by email, and after reminders I still received nothing. The AC units were fairly noisy, and cars coming in and out of the courtyard added to the noise. The floor wasn’t cleaned properly; it stuck when walked on. The rooms were undecorated and quite dark.

The room was clean. The location was bad, with a neighborhood of homeless people and overall dirtiness.
