“Authentisch”
The location is absolutely central in town, the hosts are very friendly and helpful, and the charm of the old building is appealing. The downside is that the toilet, while private, is not located in the room.

There was no positive aspect. The lobby was damp, the stairs poorly lit, and the bed felt more like a mattress with a lower gray sheet (cleanliness was not evident) and an "summer" duvet without an upper sheet, according to the owner. The room was very hot and the windows had to stay closed until at least 20:00, otherwise warm air would come in.

The property was not indicated anywhere, not even on the gate itself (I asked a nearby shop for directions and they didn’t know the accommodation existed). It’s located on a side street with limited car access, and walking up and down with luggage in August at 40°C for half an hour, I couldn’t find it. After calling the owner and struggling to communicate, the accommodation was on the third/fourth floor (no elevator) of a building that looked abandoned; the stairs and ground floor were dirty (we photographed dead insects left as a welcome), dust and dirt everywhere, dark and foul-smelling. The room was appropriately sized but still dark, with a half bathroom (only shower and sink inside, toilet outside in a separate door, risky to fall down the steep stairs, which the owner claimed was for our use only but nothing indicated the toilet was outside the room). No air conditioning, just a small floor fan with 40+ degrees outside, shutters closed and we were told not to open them (to maintain the gloomy, spooky atmosphere). The bed had 800s springs, making it hard to get up the next day and run to a physiotherapist. We ended up leaving and booked elsewhere at 18:00.

Nothing: no access, no room, no building, no surroundings. After discovering what it was, I left the establishment, even though I had paid and likely couldn’t get a refund. Reading the listing again, it is true that it says the toilets are shared; I hadn’t noticed that—they’re almost public, accessible without a key on the landing of a building, on the second floor. The ad says "private bathroom"; it’s a joke, maybe… In any case, it’s false because the tiny shower and small washbasin (which are in the room, there is no bathroom) are unfit.

I give this place a perfect score, mainly because Dauphine shows spontaneous empathy and offers breakfast in the room overlooking the hill’s foot, giving a nice view and a chance to chat with her. That extra touch is valuable since she can recommend hidden gems that beat the usual tourist spots. The apartment sits strategically near the fountain, equidistant from all the major sights in Provence, and the room itself is clean, minimal, with local floorboards and a modern, functional shower.
