Château de l’Isle is an absolutely beautiful and charming property, full of character and surrounded by lovely grounds. The château itself has a very special atmosphere, and the swimming pool is truly wonderful – probably one of the highlights of our stay. We only wished it opened earlier than 10 a.m., as an early morning swim in such a beautiful setting would have been perfect. Unfortunately, the hospitality did not quite match the beauty of the place. The hosts are rather conservative and there seem to be quite a few unwritten rules. As foreign guests, we did not always feel particularly welcome or at ease. At times, there was an uncomfortable feeling of being watched, as if we constantly had to be careful not to do something wrong. It is difficult to fully relax when you feel more like a visitor in someone’s private home than a welcomed guest. Another point worth mentioning is the location in the evening. The estate is large and beautiful during the day, but walking back from the town after dark can feel quite unsettling, as there is very little or no lighting along the way. And one practical tip: make sure you close the windows in the evening unless you want to end up with a bat inside your room – as we unexpectedly did! A memorable château experience, although perhaps not quite the kind we had in mind. :) Overall, this is a stunning and very authentic French château with enormous charm and a fantastic pool. With a slightly warmer, more relaxed approach to guests – and perhaps clearer communication of the house rules – it could be a truly exceptional place to stay

The setting is magnificent.

The rooms are beautiful and spacious, decorated in keeping with the building’s age, and the château itself was generally well maintained. The en‑suite was very modern and luxurious, and breakfast was lovely. There was nothing to dislike; everything was loved.
