Riad Bab Essaouira, nestled in Essaouira’s historic Medina, lies a ten‑minute stroll from the marina and beach. The riad’s authentic Moroccan décor features airy studios and rooms with private bathrooms, seating areas, and optional flat‑screen TVs. Guests dine on daily breakfast and can request Moroccan specialties. A rooftop terrace offers outdoor seating, while free Wi‑Fi and an airport shuttle (17 km away) enhance convenience.

I really liked the location and the vibe. The Riad owner was very helpful and assisted with everything we needed. One night we had a meal prepared by our host, it was delicious. For me, the stairs were a nightmare after my knee treatment; they were steep and hard to climb.

Nothing good. First, the street was extremely dirty—really dirty—then the room was pretty and the entrance smelled great. The owner, a very friendly man, took us up to the terrace, brewed us tea ☕️, and left; when we came back the essential oil diffuser he had set up was gone, so I finally understood why the scent was so strong. It was unbearable, I started vomiting, literally it smelled like cat pee, impossible to stay in the room. The walls had a weird smell, probably because the ground floor is on the same street and it might be leaking sewers or something; the odor was nauseating. We left after 20 minutes, asked if we could get a refund even for one night, and he said no, claiming previous guests hadn’t complained… maybe they didn’t notice it that way!

Warm welcome and friendly hosts. Extreme cleanliness of the place. Daily changes of sheets and towels. The Riyad "Bab Essaouira" is not a riad (a characterful house with a patio or garden) but a small guesthouse with four rooms. We were received in a modest, very narrow house, entered through a foul‑smelling cul‑de‑sac. The room adjoins a small living room, pleasant but directly overlooking the staircase that leads to the bathroom. There is little privacy. The price offered for a comfortable but modest room is equivalent to that of a riad 50 meters away that we visited (beautiful, spacious, elegantly renovated). We ordered dinner the first night. We were served a tasty dish of daurades but it was too expensive compared to comparable high‑end restaurants.

Simo was very attentive, helpful, and met us at the gate to help us find the riad. The rooftop was nice. Breakfast was good, with plenty of food, fresh juice, and coffee/tea. The location is great, close to the main street. We felt very safe and very welcomed. Homely, like a home stay/ B&B. We really struggled with the smell of the alley leading up to the riad and the smell of the ground floor and first floor. It is an ancient, 500‑year‑old riad so for us we would have been better located outside the medina. The second floor was much better and the rooftop breezy. We were a family of five, two rooms. I hadn’t realized the extra bed area was just behind a curtain off the stairwell. No locked door. My teenage girls found this very uncomfortable and we had to change beds so my son and husband slept there.
