“Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder.”
The Domaine du Carouge sits right in the middle of the countryside, in a small village with lots of historic timber framing opposite the church. When the imposing entrance gate opens, you see a beautiful old main house, a wonderfully pretty park-like garden, and within it the free-standing, also old building that now houses the guest house with its two rooms on the upper floor; the ground floor contains the breakfast room. On the day of our arrival it was very hot, well over 40 °C, and the air shimmered over the fields. Our very friendly hosts kept the guest house nicely cool; the room also had two very well functioning ceiling fans, so we could first recover a bit. For dinner they recommended two restaurants (uncomplicated or elegant) on the outskirts of Troyes, so we had to drive another half hour, but the (simple) restaurant was pleasant, and back at the Domaine we were greeted with a nice glass of rosé. The bed was very good, the bathroom large, modern and clean, and the breakfast was very lovingly prepared. Unfortunately we only stayed one night on the way through at the Domaine du Carouge. However, there were many interesting brochures and guidebooks, so we got the urge to explore the region, where there are not only fields and vineyards but also forests, lakes and beautiful old towns, in a future stay.
