“A place to tell people where not to stay”
We booked here to soak in the heritage vibe, and the building delivers on that. The food was good, drinks were very reasonable with nice wines by the bottle at $20, and the female bar staff were friendly and eager to teach us. On the downside, the chef seemed shady with questionable behaviour in the rooms next to ours, the shared kitchen was filthy, and there were no locks on the doors. A male staff member used the only female toilet, which was naked and seemed high as a kite. The bar (and Herberton) shut at 6.30pm. The owner was aloof, arrived on our second day and made us feel unwelcome, though he did clean up the shared kitchen.
