I was wrapping up my week in Thailand and wanted a quiet island escape, so I spotted this spot on Google Maps and it turned out to be amazing—living in nature, camping, and hanging out with a lovely Thai family. Tom and his family were kind, warm, and very attentive; they picked me up from the pier, invited me to dinner multiple times, and even helped me shop at the island’s minimarket, always checking in to see if I needed anything. Tom also showed me around and helped me explore the island. The campsite is well set up, and when a storm rolled in one day, the tent held up perfectly. The island is very natural, with a rich insect ecosystem, so bring repellent—though that’s part of its charm, wild, untouched, and unlike any other Thai island I’ve visited. If you’re after a place free of tourists, surrounded by nature and perfect for meditation or disconnecting, this is the spot.
