The location was quiet, but the room felt like a shoebox, the double bed was far too large for the space leaving only about 30 cm between the bed and the wall, the room service or whoever came at 7.00 am simply entered the room without knocking or anything, and there was no fridge or kettle.

I was left feeling uneasy. The breakfast situation was a complete mystery—there was none, and no one told me where I might find one. The room was cramped and slanted, with the left side of the bed only reachable at the foot of the bed. The mattresses felt too soft to me, and there was no staff on site. The check‑in and check‑out instructions were vague, and I had to solve a few puzzles before I could settle in.

It’s run by the same operator as the Jägerhotel 1.5 km away, where we had a great dinner and an excellent buffet breakfast; the staff were exceptionally attentive. The only drawback was the distance between the two properties, which wasn’t a major issue since we were walking anyway.

The hotel sits on the very picturesque monastery‑castle grounds right in the centre of the tiny town of Willebadessen, and even though the windows are quite small they still frame views of the well‑kept grounds. From there you can see a landscaped park that blends straight into the surrounding countryside, perfect for long walks, and a large church is next door while a smaller chapel lies about a kilometre away. The rooms are functional rather than stylish, but they’re spacious and surprisingly quiet despite the central location. The welcome email unfortunately left out the promised lock‑box code, so I had to ring the front desk, and contrary to the listing there was no breakfast on site; instead I had to walk 1.5 km to the partner hotel, where the breakfast was very good and only €10.
