The historic building’s beauty, the modern SPA, the lake view, the Belle‑Epoque vibe of the common areas, the exceptional breakfast, and the staff’s quality and friendliness were all highlights, yet the room itself was below the rest of the hotel: there was no power outlet without moving furniture, the small bathtub doubled as a shower, and the toilet was stuck behind the bathroom door.

The breakfast was good and plentiful, but the room was small, not sound‑proofed, and lacked coffee and tea for a five‑star hotel, which felt a bit light; the bathroom was tiny, and the electric car charging cost was very expensive (three times the highway price), whereas a five‑star hotel in Spain offers free charging.

The hotel’s iconic status and its magnificent lakeside location, along with good cleanliness and a generous breakfast, were positives, but the interior and especially the rooms need an update—renovation to meet today’s comfort and technology standards expected of a five‑star hotel.

The Hotel was only about an hour from Milan Malpensa airport. It is beautiful both outside and inside, with really polite and helpful staff throughout. The Hotel has amazing views over to the Borromean Islands and is perfectly located for exploring Stressa and the 3 Islands. The outdoor pool area was really lovely and relaxing and the indoor spa was superb
