The treatment was very poor; I didn’t like the way I was treated. The service was very poor. The treatment was very poor.

The lockbook outside was fitted upside down, so the code was wrong, which was my first hint that it wouldn’t be great. The extreme heat made it very uncomfortable, but there was a fan. The main electrical fuseboard was in the shower room, which is questionable because of moisture. The sink hot‑water tap was plugged into a socket under the sink, so water could track down the cable. The shower looked like a campervan water heater with the outlet barely over the top of the shower cubicle, and the water was turned on via a ball valve. There was a wall‑mounted heater above the sink too. None of these appliances should be in the shower room because they don’t meet the basic IP certifications required for those zones; in the UK this would never be allowed. There was also black hair on the shower walls, and since I have white hair, it definitely wasn’t mine.

Everything from the welcoming hosts to the convenient location was perfect, and I can’t think of anything to complain about.

There was nothing good to mention. The Ardkeen Outhouse was more like an Ardkeen Sh*thouse; calling it an outhouse does not do it justice. It was a garden shed in the back garden of a seemingly empty house in suburban Waterford. It had no redeeming features. I don’t know what the plug‑in air freshener was supposed to be, but the shed stank of a mixture of disinfectant and bleach. You couldn’t swing a tiny kitten around inside, and no self‑respecting cat would go near the place. The TV didn’t work because it was not connected to anything. There were bare light bulbs in the ceiling and lamps. None of the various Wi‑Fi passwords worked; they were scribbled on a piece of scrap paper left on the desk. The contact numbers to get the keys to the shed did not work, so I had to call some dodgy bloke in the UK to arrange collection. The shed could do with a proper clean.
