We were welcomed warmly and the stay felt very personal and cozy. The room was historically styled and tastefully decorated, and a wine tasting could be arranged. The restaurant, however, does not open until November.

The host was very friendly and accommodating, and the place itself was charming with amazing views. We only stayed for one night because we were in town for a wedding event. It was a lovely place to stay, the breakfast was good, and we had time to relax on the farm in the morning before heading back to Cape Town.

Margaret, the host, was fantastic and I enjoyed a nice chat with the owner Rolf. De Oude Wellington is a wonderful piece of heritage preserved in time; it’s a very old working farm with all its day‑to‑day realities. We absolutely loved it!

People were friendly, and the staff were very welcoming with good breakfast. The room was generally clean, though there was some hair left in the basin, suggesting it hadn’t been cleaned as thoroughly as it could have been. Heavy winds caused a power outage during our stay; although the lights and one plug still worked, we had no hot water and could not shower, which made the stay quite uncomfortable. It would be great if the property could find a way to provide basic necessities, especially hot water, during outages. We also had to pay an additional R100 for the baby cot at the end of our stay. While we understand the charge, given the lack of power and hot water and the inability to shower, we felt this could have been waived as a gesture of goodwill, as we already felt we hadn’t received full value. Overall, the staff were lovely and friendly, and we appreciated their hospitality.

A snug cottage that offered lovely walks around, but the fireplace inside was unusable.
