A wonderful village immersed in nature; I recommend experiencing it. If you want to treat yourself, stay at the Castle of Gargonza.

Nestled on a hill between Arezzo and Siena, Castello di Gargonza is a privately owned medieval village surrounded by the Valdichiana Valley and a 500‑hectare forest. Stone apartments feature original terracotta floors, wood‑beam ceilings, fireplaces, and valley views; TVs are omitted for tranquility. Guests enjoy an outdoor pool, private gardens, conference centre, historic churches, and La Torre di Gargonza restaurant offering homemade Tuscan cuisine with vegetarian, gluten‑free, and kosher options.

The place is stunning, an amazing castle. The room was comfortable with an excellent bed; only one missing bedding item (a duvet) that would suit the accommodation better, but it didn’t bother me. The staff were very polite. Breakfast was wonderful. I liked everything, except the restaurant: the menu had few options and the dish flavor wasn’t very pleasant.

The room wasn’t as clean as I expected, with many old cobwebs in the corners and dirt near the baseboards. Everything else was fine.

We traveled at the same time as another group and felt neglected by the staff. At check‑in, the receptionist asked if we wanted to dine at the restaurant, to which we said yes. Unfortunately, due to a communication breakdown between departments, the dining manager hadn’t received the information. We were poorly received: no smile, no specific dish recommendations, no eye contact. The food and setting were superb, but the anticipation and personalization of service were lacking, which is a shame for such a beautiful property.

The castle was unique, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and our room was cozy. Breakfast was good and we loved the restaurant; the pool was beautiful. The only downside was that it was a bit quiet and the opening times for the shop and pool bar were confusing.
