“If we ever visit Chengdu again, we will definitely not choose this hotel.”
Family (2 adults + 1 child) | 3 nights | Family Suite (had to change room) then Family Room While this hotel offers a unique experience, travelers should be aware of a few structural characteristics: 1. Very dark rooms: Due to the deep layout and covered corridors, the rooms are very dark. You need artificial lights even during the day. Also, the rooms are badly soundproofed, corridor conversations can be heard clearly inside. 2. Plumbing issues: The plumbing system of the old building struggles. The toilet in our suite clogged THREE times in two days (keeping in mind that we were out sightseeing all day), dominating our stay. The staff fixed it routinely, showing it is a common issue, but never proactively offered a room change. When we finally demanded one, the response was cold. This situation very negatively impacted our experience in Chengdu—after all, a holiday is supposed to be relaxing. 3. Staff & Service: The staff is warm-hearted but clearly lacks professional hospitality training. After the toilet incident, the hotel staff made extensive attempts to persuade us not to leave a negative review. While we felt for them, they missed the point of honest traveler feedback. 4. Lighting: The artificial lights are stark, bright white, and purely practical, completely lacking any cozy ambient or dimming functions. 5. Cleanliness: On first use, the hairdryer (in a velvet bag) was greasy and covered in other guests' hair. We booked based on great reviews, but our experience was far from satisfactory. After the third toilet breakdown, we seriously considered switching to another hotel on the spot. We paid 320 EUR (~$360 USD) for 3 nights (avg. $110/night). For comparison, we checked the Ritz-Carlton Chengdu on Friday, and a bright room for 3 people was only $146 USD for that night. If booked well in advance, you wouldn't pay much more for the Ritz
