The staff is outstanding, the setting is very charming, breakfast is perfectly adequate, and the wine hour is delightful. The threshold to the bathroom is too high and needs a transition molding; I stubbed the bottom of my foot and it was quite uncomfortable.

Although not shockingly fresh, the hotel’s trendy UK-themed decor is very comfortable. Gas fires in the bedrooms would be great in cooler months. The bedroom, bathroom, etc. are very spacious and well-equipped; a washer‑dryer would be even better, and there’s enough room for it. Breakfast offers good options, and there’s a lovely lounge for reading or relaxing. The location just off Powell St is good, 5 minutes walk to Union Square but not as hectic as that. The room facing Bush St was noisy in the evening, and it was hard to control temperature – no air‑con, just a fan and the option to open windows, which were stuck closed and we struggled with.

The appearance of the place is nice, but there’s no air conditioning. The valet service is a joke – they give you a number to call to have your car ready and it’s never answered. You end up having the front desk call them and then you have to wait another 30 minutes for them to bring your car to you. Parking in front of the building is a mess; it’s always full and no one moves cars even though it’s supposed to be valet. The street noise is loud. You have to open your windows for cool airflow, which means all the noise from the bars around you and traffic keeps you awake all night.

The hotel staff were helpful and engaged. The old-fashioned, atmospheric elevator added charm. The location is good and there is a fireplace in the room. Breakfast could have been more refined; even without a kitchen you could have provided mayonnaise for hard‑boiled eggs.
