“Extraordinario”
The site is spectacular, with large, architecturally beautiful rooms and amazing views—all truly impressive. The coffee served at breakfast was the only downside.

The room was spacious and tidy, all functions worked properly, and the bed was comfy, yet it consistently felt hot at night—perhaps a setting issue. The river views were lovely, and the staff were friendly, polite, and helpful. Breakfast, however, was a major letdown: it felt like standard cafeteria fare, typical of a cheaper hotel, so we skipped it the second day. I wish they’d rebuild the dock for a better riverside spot, and the property clearly needs some infrastructure upgrades.

The garden is lovely and the rooms feel quirky yet enjoyable. The pool was closed and weekday breakfast suffered because the buffet was poorly stocked during a conference; back when I visited a decade ago, breakfast was a highlight.

The place has a truly atmospheric vibe with brutalist architecture on the riverfront of an old plantation. I enjoyed strolling the paths, the almost complete absence of pavement, watching the river, and hearing the animals in the trees at night (spooky!). The room was spacious, minimalist, and completely comfortable. The service in the common areas was fine and friendly. It’s not a fancy resort, but a very tranquil and well‑designed place to stay, and I’ll return in spring. A slight musty smell in the room was a little off‑putting, but I got used to it. In the hot, sticky July weather, condensation on the outside of the windows obscured the river view. Not much could be done about it, given the high elevation of the rooms, up a tall set of stairs, keeping them out of the flood zone. I’m from the Pacific coast, so I have very little experience with the weather of the South.

It’s very peaceful with great design in a beautiful setting. The included breakfast is awful – this country really needs to wake up when it comes to food, it’s embarrassing. The restaurant at Middleton Place serves great local food, so why is the hotel breakfast all poison?
