The hotel is about five blocks from a metro station, the area is safe and very peaceful, there are several convenience stores nearby as in all of Tokyo, and a supermarket where you can find almost everything; the rooms are small but comfortable, there’s a fridge in the kitchen for storing food, and water and coffee are free.

The building itself feels old, yet the interior was renovated and looks pretty clean; the cleaning seems frequent, and the shower room and toilet are tidy and nice. However, each room lacks a refrigerator and only a shared one is available, which is inconvenient; the smart TV might be a drawback for those who want to watch TV shows or news; additionally, the on‑site staff appears to be Korean rather than Japanese, so communication in Japanese can be a bit awkward.

As a budget solo traveler staying for a few weeks, I loved how clean Kankokukan was and its location, which blends residential and business vibes; everything around Ikebukuro Station was just a 9‑minute walk, and the staff made sure the facilities were cleaned daily. I did find the pillows a bit flat, which caused some neck discomfort; asking for an extra pillow helped a little. The stools work for casual use, but they’re uncomfortable for remote work; the staff kindly let me borrow a chair from the 4th‑floor patio, which was very helpful. The Wi‑Fi is about 85 % reliable for remote work.

The staff were very helpful, but the room is very small; it’s fine for a solo night’s stay with no luggage, but if you bring bags it becomes a problem.
