The welcome was amazing with an unobstructed view of Mount Yotei, and the owners run a small restaurant that serves delicious udon; we especially recommend the octopus skewers. We had a wonderful stay and parking was available. The room was a bit warm and the windows lacked mosquito nets, so insects kept coming in—luckily we had our own net.

My cat roommate was adorable and could be petted every day. The view of the snow and Mount Yotei was unbeatable. It’s a bit off the beaten path—there’s no shop in front of the village and the shop behind the village is closed during my stay, so you have to eat elsewhere and come back. The piano in the first‑floor room takes up space.

The location is good for various ski resorts and the price is cheap. We stayed on the ground floor in a cramped room that also had a piano; under it was very dirty. There was no bedding, just a fleece sheet or blanket. The bathroom on the ground floor was not very clean. The room windows faced the parking lot, and one was built into a wooden frame. On the ground floor you can’t see the mountain. Neither the rooms nor the front door had a lock, so theoretically anyone could enter the house and rooms. The kitchen was okay, but there was only one pot, and the pan was aluminum and not suitable for the induction stove. The whole house smelled strongly of old smoke and kerosene from the heaters. Outside the door were half‑rotten wooden boxes with equipment. We never saw the owners. It felt a bit like a ghost house.
