“Best hosts I have ever had”

Matt & Aya were amazing hosts (sorry if I misspelled their names). They served eggs in the morning and we had great chats throughout my stay. It was a nice escape from the city’s hustle. They gave plenty of tips and showed me places around Myoko and beyond, and even helped me ship my luggage back to the airport, which was a huge relief. I’m very grateful for the time I spent there, even though the weather didn’t cooperate for the mountains. I’d love to stay again—and I will—on my next trip to Japan.

Matt and his wife were wonderful hosts—friendly, accommodating, and eager to share recommendations. They picked us up from the train station and drove us back when we left for Tokyo. The location is close to Kanko and the onsen snow fields, though we didn’t walk because Matt would run us up each morning.

The bed was comfy, the hosts were accommodating, the rooms were clean, and the facilities were nice. Matt gave us a free ride to the slopes every day, cutting a 10+ minute walk. He also offered a lift to the station on checkout and supplied a futon in the room since a double was not our first choice. We had some concerns but ultimately enjoyed a relaxing stay. The building is a traditional Japanese Ryokan, yet under this management it feels like a comfortable westernised experience. The bathing options could use renovation; the two 2‑person onsen rooms in the basement are oddly arranged, with one used only for showers. It would be better as 2‑3 separate shower cubicles and one larger onsen room with a new bath.

“Homely accomodation”

Matt and Aia were lovely hosts who transported us to and from the train station and cooked eggs for us every morning. The rooms were warm and the bedding very comfy, and the shared facilities were always kept very clean. I’ll be back—thank you.
