The location worked well for us. The room needed a serious cleaning; everything was painted in dark tones and the lighting was poor. Cobwebs hung from the ceiling, and the bathroom extractor fan made a terrible noise and was thick with dust. The shower tray was blocked, forcing us to rush before it overflowed. The kettle’s PAT test label showed it was far overdue. There was no remote in the room, so I had to get a generic one that lacked a battery cover; it was quickly replaced with a proper one.

The staff were friendly and helpful, yet there were too few of them and they seemed to juggle too many tasks. The hotel clearly needs a full makeover; the rooms were sweltering with no air‑con and the ground‑floor windows couldn’t stay open. Noise was a problem because the room sat right next to the reception. Housekeeping vanished one day during a wedding—beds weren’t made, the toilet was unclean, milk/tea/coffee weren’t refilled, and the cups from the previous day hadn’t been washed. It was obvious the staff couldn’t cope with the wedding and the other guests.
